OUR CLIENT

RPM Seafood

RPM Seafood is a dramatic multi-level restaurant overlooking the Chicago River that features creative cuisine based on the world’s best fish and seafood.

PROJECT

Site survey and install channel letter signage

LOCATION

317 North Clark Street, Chicago

CHALLENGE

Design plans for this downtown high-rise—located right on the banks of the Chicago River—called for a channel letter sign affixed to the building several stories high. The location and design were challenging enough, but the timing of the restaurant’s grand opening also coincided with one of the city’s coldest winters on record.

SOLUTION

After a site survey and multiple meetings with designers, architects, tradesmen, and the job superintendent, we determined the correct blocking and connections needed for a safe, trouble-free, and on-time installation. Due to the building’s riverbank location, there was no way to get an aerial piece of equipment on site, so we did it old school. We had a scaffolding system delivered, and our three-man team of electricians and iron workers installed the sign 45 feet in the air on a 15-degree-below-zero day. In other words, we did what we always do: grab the bull by the horns, maintain a positive attitude, and stay grateful for the opportunity to work on projects of this caliber.

RESULTS

The general contractor, superintendent, and client all came outside to thank us for meeting the deadline two days ahead of schedule—despite it being one of (if not the) coldest days of the year.
